I was right.

So in my last post I know you all remember me talking about my new job that I started yesterday and how it was going to be cold, physical and suck a lot. I was right. I spent the majority of my day with three other fellas who were in orientation with me along with my supervisor going through step by step what I am going to be doing for the next two and a half months. I had a lot of questions answered as well as a lot more that came about. This job is all about speed. Speed referring to how quickly I can move up and down each aisle and stack the products on my skids in such a way that they are efficient and won't fall off. Each "pick" (the list of products that I am sent out to retrieve and drop off at the truck's specific loading dock) has its own allotted time for how long it should take me to get all of it. That is going to be the toughest part, no doubt about it. If it is supposed to take you fifteen minutes and you take thirty, then your rate is 50%. After 60 days...

When Hell Freezes Over

I spent the majority of my day finishing up orientation for my new job at Meijer Distribution Center. It was and is going to be without a doubt an experience, seeing as how I learned today how to drive/operate a forklift and two other pieces of equipment. In starting my job tomorrow, I've come to the realization about some thing regarding it: 1. It's going to be cold as balls. 2. It's going to be very physical and tough on my body. 3. It's going to suck some major ass. I need the money though, in the worst way. Paying for college is not easy, as many of you know I'm sure so getting as much as I can right now is all I can really ask for. I am getting paid a very good hourly wage, but something tells me that it is not going to seem like enough no matter what I end up doing at work tomorrow or in the future. I'm not really sure what all to expect, because they did not really tell us today where we would be working in our respective buildings and what exactly we wou...

Gummi Bears

So, my sister is home as you know, and being typical Carmen she has had her cravings regarding sweets. And of course, she is not afraid to voice them. It was late yesterday afternoon/evening when my mother and I were going through my closet cleaning out old shirts and what not when she came into my room and sat on my bed just to make her presence known. It didn't take her long to find an old (and I mean old) box of unopened Nerds candy. Quickly springing into action she snatched them up and asked me if she could have them. I said sure, noting the fact that she had mentioned to me numerous times how all she wanted was gummi bears or some sort of sweet candies. My dear sweet mother, the amazing woman that she is, brought home some gummi bears tonight for her daughter. She alerted me to this right away, but I did not get the text message until about an hour after she sent it to me as I was indisposed at that moment. I had stopped by my best friends house for dinner after a run and had...

Transitional Weekend

It's been a while since I've written down anything on here, and I know that you all are probably thinking the same thing, saying to yourself, "You call your blog 'Daily Segs' but there sure as hell isn't anything 'Daily' about it." I know it seems like every time that I do post I am apologizing because I am not staying consistent with this, and I can assure you that I'm not being lazy. I'm just busy and/or tired at the end of the day and don't think to get on here to write some things down. So you can consider this a disclaimer: I, Eric Seger, will post every day from here on out as long as there is not a life and death situation at hand; or for some reason I am not at home before I go to sleep and therefore do not have my computer with me. This weekend, as I'm sure you can see from the title of this entry, was one that consisted of many transitions as well as many events. It all began with a trek up to the College of Wooster to vi...

Finally, a Win

So as you all know by now I'm a pretty avid sports fan, with my favorite sports being basketball, football and baseball in that order. My favorite professional teams for each vary a little be geographically, but for the most part I'm a home-state type of fan. I cheer for the Cavaliers, Celtics and am quickly becoming more and more of a fan of the Mavericks simply because they beat LeBron and the Heat and Dirk Nowitzki is simply the man. I like the Celtics because I love Ray Allen, because he possesses one of the sweetest strokes I've ever seen. As I'm sure you also know-and if you don't you've got some serious issues with noticing your surroundings-I live and die with the Green Bay Packers, and it has forever been my dream to witness a game at Lambeau Field. Or any Packer game for that matter. As far as baseball goes, it's nice to see the Cleveland Indians do well this year (you know, Ohio love) but I'm a die-hard fan of the Cincinnati Reds. This is of c...

Missing the Old Days

It's been a few days since my last post, but my life had been less than exciting between then and now until last night so I didn't really see a reason to post. As I awoke this morning and popped two brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts into the toaster I turned on the TV for the typical start to my day-breakfast and Sportscenter. At commercial, I started surfing through those beloved Time Warner Cable channels that my family and I have been stuck on for who knows how long. I went all the way up to the upper 50s and stopped at 57 when I saw members of the scarlet and gray running onto the field at Iowa. Intrigued, it only took me a few seconds to realize that the Big Ten Network was showing their program known as Big Ten in 60, a quick run through of either football or basketball games in 60 minutes, and that this morning's flavor was this past season's game between Ohio State and Iowa. This was a game in which, as I'm sure we all remember, the Buckeyes were in a fight all...

Bling Bling

Yes, I did forget to post last night but its not that big of a deal. I was out playing basketball with some buddies and then hanging out with my mom after she grilled me a delicious steak. I love her more and more each and everyday. A lot went on today, as I pulled weeds for a little more than three hours, and then mowed our lawn. So I got to spend a lot of time outside in the nice weather before it got too humid. Mom and Pop left a little while ago to go to Cleveland to visit my sister, and Green Bay got their Super Bowl XLV rings . You know. The usual. Now let me tell you a little something about these rings. These things are HUGE. They weigh a quarter of a pound, the G in the center contains 13 diamonds, one for each NFL title dating back to 1929, and surrounding the entire crown there are an additional 92 diamonds-one for each year the Packers have been in existence. Talk about Super Bowl swag. Yes, I did make the picture of Aaron Rodgers ring my profile picture on Facebook and no ...

The Real World

My apologies for not posting last night. I was a dump and completely forgot to do it after I got home from my buddies house last night and was watching the Reds. I realized that I didn't post when I laid down to go to sleep, and then decided it wasn't worth it to get up and do it at 1 a.m. Anyways, today was extremely busy. Productive, but busy. It also made me cope with the realization that as much as I might not want it to happen I am becoming more and more of a part of the real world with each passing day. After waking up at 8 and starting my day with Kashi and Sportscenter I trekked across the street to my neighbors place to the pile of mulch that awaited me. The day before I had spent an hour digging a new post hole for his overhanging on his back porch that had rotted away and then put it in the hole and filled the rest of it with dirt. He had told me that he had mulch on its way at some point that day and asked if I would be willing to spread it around his place. I answe...

Kashi Kashi Kashi

I cannot believe that I am even going to write anything about a subject such as this, but it's really going to happen. If you have never had a bowl of Kashi cereal, I certainly recommend it. It is unbelievably healthy for you, and it tastes too good if you get the right amount of milk. I've gotta give a shoutout to my beloved roommate James Balata, as he is the one who is responsible for getting me helplessly hooked on the phenomenon that is Kashi. When I first met the guy, all he did was talk about the damn stuff and how healthy it is for you and how it is "so good." When he first started eating it in our dorm room-which felt like for every meal and/or snack-i honestly thought it was tree bark. It sure looked like it, all different shades of brown resembling it. He consistently said he was the best thing in the world, and yet again and again I wouldn't try the stuff for fear of pooping out layers of a stump or something. At long last, I finally gave in a tried a...

Deal With It LeBron

So I know it's been quite a while since I've posted anything, but people I've been busy. Finals week sucks up your life and then I was in Cincinnati literally all day yesterday for my sister's graduation, which we all know is important. Her final project (she is an interior design grad now) was simply unreal. She was working on it tirelessly I know, so a shout out to her for finally getting through it. She deserves it. A lot has been going on since my last post but I'm going to try and make this pretty quick. Finals suck, I mean let's be real. I'm really glad they are all over with, and am happy with my grades thus far but of course I'm still waiting on my history grade to be posted. At least my TA is consistent. It is great to be home that is for sure, sleeping in my own bed was definitely missed. I also missed mothers cooking, which by itself is a good enough reason to come home. Ok, let's get to the good stuff. The Finals concluded tonight, and I ...

Premature Frustration

Alright, so my bad Dirk. My bad. In my last post I was extremely frustrated about Game 2 of the NBA Finals as I was watching it and of course it came back to make me look like a fool. Or at least Dirk and the Mavs made me look like a fool. As I said in the previous fortnight, Dallas was down by 15 with about 4 minutes to go and I had written them off. I had it in my head that it was just going to be another boring Finals with the superstars getting the championship rather easily, because if you go up 2-0 in a series your chances of winning it increase by a whole bunch. But slowly Dallas crawled back in the game, inch by inch, bucket by bucket, and Miami threw it away. They finally made some shots and got some stops, even though it looked like for the entire game that Miami wasn't going to be stopped because they were pulling a Blake Griffin and getting dunk after dunk after dunk. I think they finished with nine in all, but down the stretch they simply quit scoring, and LeBron was f...

Google Chrome>Safari

Alright so as I begin to write this entry, I'm doing it because I'm painfully watching Game 2 of the NBA Finals and the Heat are once again seemingly having their way. It's pretty ridiculous how much more energy and athleticism they have than the Mavericks. But anyways this post is going to be focused around a new toy that I was introduced to this evening. It is called Google Chrome, and I know that a lot of you probably already have it and are saying to yourself, "this clown is so far behind" (s/o to the Crochinator) but this thing is the stuff. There is so much you can do with it, and it's like the app store for iTunes+any internet explorer+any search engine ever. Like literally every thing that you could think of/need when you're trying to find things on the internet, read news, etc. Numerous times I was just blown away at what the apps did for me to make my life easier. So, once again I have to give a s/o to my good buddy The Crotch, because he helped ...

Contacts>Glasses

For all of you who have bad eyes, whether it because of astigmatism, nearsightedness, farsightedness, or any other problem that can occur in the eye. I feel your pain, as I have been wearing glasses since the third grade. I'll never forget that conversation with my parents. They told me after a day of school that I was going to go to the eye doctor to get my eyes checked out. I really did not want to, which was stupid because it showed how oblivious I was to common sense because I didn't even realize that I had just finished telling them the day before that I could not see the board in math class unless I was like three feet away. Not really wanting to go, I sucked it up and made the trek into the unknown with my mom the next day. Ever since then, and maybe this is weird, but I have always loved getting my eyes checked. That is, unless it is under a circumstance where I have an infection or something similar. I do not know why I like getting my eyes looked at, but my best theor...
