Christmas Vacation, The Near End of the NFL Regular Season, and MAD IMPORTANT NEWS

Alright people, this is going to be real brief-I have a frozen pizza in the oven and Breaking Bad to watch. Just wanted to get something down before the end of 2012 seeing as how it's been three months since that has happened. Sorry I'm not sorry. I know it has been a while-a long while at that since something new has been posted on here. Again I apologize but as stated in my last post semesters SUCK and consumed my life along with work, sporting events, that lovely girl of mine, and some other personal family things that I would rather not discuss. Christmas vacation got off to a rip roarin' start in Columbus for me as the traditional Ugly Christmas Sweater parties were in full force again. If we are friends on Facebook you can see what I wore. Must say it was pretty dope. I came home to the good ole 937 the day after it. Many people (including my sisters and my parents) asked me why I chose to come home so early on break when I could have stayed and worked some more

Those People Who Mr. Goodell Call 'Officials'

Hmph. That about sums about the way I feel about the National Football League at the moment. So does the rest of America, or so it seems. I guess it is a good move on my part that I did not write this post last night around midnight after I saw this happen to my beloved Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. The fact that this blatantly awful call was on national television amplifies the situation more than people realize. Through the first three weeks of this NFL season, it is no secret that the gentlemen (and lady in one instance) that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hired to work this season until the regulars get their labor situation figured out with the owners of all 32 franchises in league are just embarrassing. These officials have consistently made bad call after bad call (just YouTube NFL replacement refs bad calls and you will be able to waste a solid amount of time at work or in class shaking your head) and I think we all were just sitting around and waiting f

No Respect for the NL Central Champs, Semesters Sucking, and More

Before I get into some other bits of goodies, I thought I'd share a column I wrote for The Lantern about the Cincinnati Reds that I sent on Thursday. It's a little outdated now because they clinched the division last night and are playing on ESPN tonight. Whoops. Lack of Respect for the Cincinnati Reds I have always been an avid supporter of the Cincinnati Reds. The countless memories of going to the ballpark to watch them play with my dad and going to as many Opening Days as my schedule allowed are very dear in my heart. For the majority of my life the Reds have never given me much hope for a winning team on the field and thus the opportunity to watch them play deep in October. That changed in 2010, when thanks to Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips and Co. the Reds made the playoffs for the first time since 1995. After taking a step back in 2011, the Reds are well on their way to another playoff berth. As of September 17, they sat at 88-59, first pla

My First Legal Drinking Age Post

Hello everybody, and welcome to this, my first blog post as a legal American Drinker. As some of you know, my 21st birthday indeed was yesterday, and even though this was really the only thing I had to drink last night, I still had an awesome day. While I'm assuming all of you will shake your head at me about the Smirnoff Ice, let me explain myself first. I was able to switch shifts with some of my co-workers so I could have Wednesday (my birthday) off. As a result of this, I took advantage of being old enough to drink alcohol on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. I'm told I had a great time, and surely hope that was the case because of the state my body was in yesterday. The day was rough but I suppose that's how you are meant to felt on your 21st birthday. The reasoning for the Smirnoff Ice being one of a few drinks I had yesterday is this: as is tradition at 137 East Frambes Ave. (better known as the "Incinerator") anytime it is someone's birthday and/o

Independent America

So after about two months of being a world class dump and moving through my life acting like I want to have a career in sports journalism and yet doing nothing in terms of writing about sports, here I am. The last month of school was quite a grind, which goes without saying if, like myself, you go to The Ohio State University or another school that acted on the quarter system for the 2011-2012 school year. There is nothing like taking finals in 90+ degree heat while your other friends that you graduated the worm that is high school with post/tweet/Instagram/annoy the hell out of you with photos and statuses about their summer vacations to God knows where. Honestly people, I understand that you are excited to work on getting your skin cancer on while getting hammered on the beach, river, pond, lake, etc. (as we all enjoy) but keep the stuff to a minimum. What do I mean by this? Throw up one status as you are leaving to go to your vacation's destination or send one tweet about it.

Spring Weather, Spring Feeling, Spring Life

Happy May everyone, and although I dropped the ball on getting this done yesterday which was the first of the month ( El Primero de Mayo for you Spanish buffs-yes I learned about the info on that link this quarter in my Spanish class) I surely hope you can forgive me. Mother Nature has finally got her head out of her rear end a bit and given us some weather that feels a bit more like Springtime. Even though it stormed last night quite a bit the weather thus far today has been gorgeous. Needless to say, some time spent today on the Oval Beach is a must. All that is needed is some serious suntan lotion (SPF 45 right Ma?) and a beach towel. The NFL Draft concluded Sunday, allowing for everyone and their mother to make predictions and give "report cards" for each team on how well they think they drafted. I find this a bit inane, simply because making such statements about players who have yet to play a down in the NFL seems pointless. I know that a lot of what goes into the

NFL Draft Day 1

I have never been much of an NFL draft goer, lover, or guru by any means but since the darn thing has been ESPN's life for over three weeks now and this is a sports blog I figured I should write something about it. Kicking off at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the draft's first round was completed this evening. I really only cared about one pick, with that being Green Bay's at 28, but it was at least a little intriguing to see where the big name players were going and which teams were willing to make trades in order to move up. The Packers got defensive with their first pick (thank God) and drafted DE Nick Perry from the University of Southern California. Even though I wanted them to pick up Courtney Upshaw from Alabama, I still am content with this pick because if you followed anything from the NFL last year the one thing Green Bay needs is defensive help. Perry is a big kid (6'3" 271) and Packer Nation is hoping he will serve as a nice compliment to Cl
