I remember when I had back to back days off
So I know that all of my recent posts have essentially been me bitching about how much my job sucks, so I promise you that this time won't be similar to that. It does suck a lot, but luckily I did not have to clean tonight so I got off at ten o'clock, which was nice. My sister is supposedly coming home tonight too so it will be nice to spend some time with her. And hey, I even get to watch some of the Reds, because their game went into extra innings. I'm really not sure why I even care anymore about them, seeing as how they just got swept in a four games series at home against the Mets and just don't seem to have that fire and excitement to them like they did last year. Dad told me today that after their lost yesterday Miguel Cairo, the cagey vet that I love and the Reds are lucky to have on their team, apparently got very upset and called out the team in the clubhouse. Some people may see this as someone just trying to be bigger than the team and essentially saying, "No one is giving it their all except for myself" or "Everyone else is the reason for our recent struggles, not me." Personally, I love this though. It's what you need. Someone who is going to step up and be a vocal leader. I mean the Mets aren't bad, I've always felt that they should be a lot better than what their record indicates because of the players that they have on their team. But still. It's the Mets. The lowly unfortunate Mets. They never play up to their potential it seems and to lose to them for four straight days is damn near pathetic.
Anyways, enough of my ranting about Cincinnati. I asked off work next Wednesday because Mom was able to get some tickets to the Dragons game through her work, and seeing as how it's been multiple years since I've been to a game I deemed it necessary to ask off a day and go to the game. Because of this, I have to work on Sunday which is never fun but I'll get through it. Usually Sundays are slow, and I still have Tuesday off next week in addition to Wednesday. It'll be the first time I've had back to back days off of work since-uh....
Yeah I can't remember. I think maybe I'll have to go way back to before I even got this job. Who knows. This also means that I have to now work six straight days, which will also get suck but the two days off will be a nice reward for that bit of determination.
Enough about work. As I'm sure a lot of you know the NFL lockout is finally over, so naturally everything is back in business and players are signing deals, getting cut, and getting traded like wildfire. It's pretty crazy how quickly things happen when you don't have a lot of time before the first season. I'm just ecstatic football is back, because I love to watch it and Green Bay gets to play New Orleans in the season opener in a showdown of the last two Super Bowl Champions. I'm itching with excitement.
The NCAA hearing for Ohio State is also rapidly approaching, with the date being August the 12th. It has recently been said that OSU will not be charged with a "lack of institutional control" and therefore it's all basically on Jim Tressel. As much as it sucks that Tressel has had to take the fall for it all and how everything happened, but it is his fault and now it seems as if Ohio State won't get off as badly as myself and every other Buckeye fan alive thought. We'll just have to see what happens.
So when I was ranting about the Reds it was because they hadn't won in a four days, and as I was typing up there I decided that I was going to finish this post with a game recap. They had bases loaded in a 3-3 game in the bottom of the 9th, but of course blew up and didn't score. But hey wouldn't you know it? In the 13th inning the lovable and quite hilarious Brian Wilson (San Francisco's closer) walked Jay Bruce, and then Jose Arredondo-a relief pitcher and needed to bat because they were low on relief pitchers-got his first career major league hit. Then up came Edgar Renteria slapped a base hit down the right field line bringing home Bruce for the game winning hit.
So that put a nice capper on my Friday night, in addition to my sister coming home and bringing me my final (I'm pretty sure) birthday present. ESPN's 30 for 30 series has always been a personal favorite of mine and I have always wanted the entire set, and now I have it. Kim brought it home tonight and I cannot be more thankful to both her and my other sister Carmen for buying it for me. It is a wonderful gift and I am truly blessed to have such great family members who are willing to buy nice things for the other members in their family. I thank them very much.
GO REDLEGS!
