America
After just getting back from church on this Sunday morning, I decided to take a minute and think about America and where we're at right now. I feel as if it is the right thing to do seeing as how it is 4th of July weekend, and because I turn 20 years old in about three weeks I should probably start learning what in the world is going on in my country. This is obviously because I am going to be voting soon and am quickly becoming more and more important (not really but sort of) and I don't want to be one of those citizens who just goes through life not knowing anything about our government.
My parents sister and I discussed how much debt our country is in right now, and how it shows no signs of reducing any time soon. It sucks, and even though I do not really know what it's going to mean for the next five years, my assumption is that taxes are going to be raised and/or the government is going to take more out of our paychecks. It's a vicious cycle, because if that happens how are they going to expect people to still be able to pay for things? I'm pretty sure that the cost of living is not going down and the rich are going to be the only ones who get richer. The reduction of the middle class is getting more and more noticeable, judging by what I see and hear on TV these days. It very quickly is becoming just upper class and lower class.
I don't really know why I'm writing about this right now-honestly no clue. It probably is because tomorrow is indeed Independence Day so whenever these types of holidays come around (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Halloween, etc.) I try to take some time to think about my country and what all we have been through. I mean, the history class I took this spring was all about our young country prior to the Civil War and how shit seemed to hit the fan just like today but for a lot different reasons. All the government wanted back then was to spread westward and make our country whole, but speed bumps such as the issue of slavery, Confederate secession, and Native American removal got in the way and needed tending to. I feel as if in today's society the government is encountering problems such as this but aren't really doing much to try and rectify the situation. Maybe they are, but I haven't really heard of any monumental laws being passed or action being taking. Like I said, I do not really spend my time worrying about things like this so maybe it is happening. Who knows. I guess I should try to spend less time on sports and more on politics. But honestly, that really just sounds terrible. I'd rather have my gums scraped than do that.
So I'll leave you with this-enjoy your 4th of July weekend, and celebrate our freedom. Do it especially for me because I have to go to work in about two hours until God knows when so I'll be missing out on a lazy Sunday. I do have the holiday off as well as Tuesday so all that needs to be done is to get through today. But anyways, enjoy the day and be smart about it. Drink your beer and eat your hamburgers and hot dogs but don't put your life or anyone else's in danger by being and idiot/dumbass.
GO AMERICA.
