Squirrel Guts

Well, the weekend is indeed upon us and Mother Nature has served up nearly ideal weather for us to enjoy it. I can't remember the last weekend like this except for perhaps fall quarter.

I have been looking forward to this weekend for numerous reasons, with the main one being the fact that I am excited to spend some time with a few high school friends who are already out of school and coming to visit. One of these visitors was in fact my date to my senior Homecoming where I was for some reason that is still beyond me crowned King. And guess what I was awarded with? A football. Yes. A football. Not just any ordinary football. An NFL football that said 2009 Homecoming King. Yahoo! I mean, I thought Kings wore crowns, but hey I'm not bitter about it.

So anyways, she came down yesterday afternoon and we took to High Street with a few other people that went to my high school who both go here along with my best friend's girlfriend who is still stuck in the whirlwind that is high school. We stopped at the Ohio Union to grab some grub at Sloopy's, which in my opinion is one of my top three places to eat on campus that takes swipes.

One BBQ chicken sandwich, some tasty chips, two halves of two chocolate chip pancakes and one spilled glass of water later we left the Union and headed towards my dorm. That's when I saw something that I've never seen before in my life nor did I think would I ever see.

As we were walking on the North side of College Road just eclipsing the Ohio Union garages, all of a sudden there was a pretty deep THUD. We all snatched our heads over, and much to the delight of two university workers standing outside the back of Hagerty Hall came to realize that a hopeless squirrel had fallen from what was the highest branch of a tree straight down to the pavement. The workers were loving every minute of it, and needless to say I was as well. Who could have expected this? Squirrels were supposed to be graceful and able to do things in trees that only monkeys could possibly replicate.

The squirrel ran off (more like limped off) with its tail between its legs to the base of the tree, contemplating whether or not he should try the tree again. He eventually did and I must say I admire his courage and persistence. Sure, the little guy made a complete fool out of himself but he wasn't scared to try it again (course there also is a possibility that his mental capacity didn't allow him to know what exactly was going on or what happened, but hey. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt).

My friends and I continued back to my place, enjoying the time together and chuckling about the little determined squirrel. We had a fun night together, as it was eventful yet chill. Can't complain about that at all.

I'm off to enjoy the rest of my weekend, and I trust you will do the same. I know the background is still the best player to ever play basketball and some of you may think I lied about changing it to the portrait of Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews, but I assure you it is not my fault. A part of the site is still on hiatus apparently, because I can't make any changes to my blog or profile. It'll come around. Maybe.

P.S. The Cincinnati Reds earned their way into 1st place in the National League Central with a 7-3 victory over those hated St. Louis Cardinals. Just thought you'd like to know.
