The Last Real Weekend of Freshman Year
As I get the ball rolling on this Friday entry, I apologize for not constructing an entry last night. Yesterday was a rather long day for Eric, made possible by me being an idiot and staying up until 2 a.m. Wednesday night watching the Reds suck and lose a game to a position player (Wilson Valdez) in the 19th inning. My alarm rang at 7:45 the next morning because I needed to be to my 8:30 class extra early due to the fact that my group was presenting our final presentation and wanted to meet early to run through it one last time before showtime. Naturally, only me and the Asian member (not being racist I promise) showed up on time, so I could have gotten 15 minutes more of sleep, but what would that do for me anyways. The presentation went well, and after attending two more classes yesterday, working out, and an eye appointment, I was sleepy. I chilled for a while and then just fell asleep before realizing that I did not blog all day. I hope you can forgive me.
Anyways, today (or yesterday, depending on how much you go out) marks the beginning of the last real weekend of my freshman year here at Ohio State. I have to admit it's pretty surreal, and unreal to be honest. Only one holiday shortened week of classes and then finals left till I am officially a sophomore. They say that you need to enjoy where you're at, when you're there, because if you don't, you're going to be retired and wondering where the hell did my life go. That statement couldn't possess anymore factual information, because it feels like my parents just dropped me off yesterday on North campus to start college life. And yet, here I am.
I've had my fair share of friends either text, Facebook, or call me and say "I remember when I was a freshman" and all I've gotta say to each and every one of you and get over yourself. You started school an entire MONTH before I did, are on semesters, don't go to as badass of a school as I do, and are stuck back home where I'm still loving life at The Ohio State University. So come off it. After next year, we'll all be on the same schedule pretty much and you won't be able to say that.
Now, I say that this weekend is the last real one of the school year because next weekend must be dedicated solely to studying for finals that are rapidly approaching. I'm pretty pleased with my finals schedule, with the only complaint being that I have one on Thursday. I know I should shut up because my best friend in the world (love you man) has 4 finals back to back to back to back on Thursday and can't get it changed because his professors are pricks and won't help a brother out. That sucks major nuts. I couldn't feel more sorry for him, because no one should have to go through that.
I have a final Monday (my hardest one-bloody Econ), none Tuesday, one Wednesday, and then my last one at 1:30 on Thursday. Things should work out nicely for me regarding studying, sleeping, eating, and working out schedules and I have to admit I'm stoked for it. Shout out to all students on quarter schools who are preparing for those finals soon. God's speed and do work.
As far as the sporting world goes, the Heat clinched a berth to their second ever NBA Finals by closing out The Chicago Derrick Roses last night and are awaited by the team they met up with in 2006, the Dallas Mavericks. They beat the Mavs in seven games, giving the franchise its first title and denying my boy Dirk Nowitzki his shot at a ring. Well Dirk is back and better than ever this year, and has a better supporting cast then he did back then. Miami is better too though, because they have 2 1/2 superstars (sorry Chris Bosh-you look like an alien when you play and are not a superstar) so needless to say they are better than back then too. I'll give my Finals prediction right now, and I want you to take it knowing that I hate what LeBron did to Cleveland-no wait. What he did to OHIO. Yeah, that's better. The guys a phenomenal athlete and basketball player, don't get me wrong and I know that all he wants his a few rings so he can finally be in the discussion with Jordan, Bird, Magic, Russell, Kobe, etc. and thats commendable. But dude. You joined with Dwayne Wade, who brings Marquette Golden Eagle swag and already won a ring (with Shaq-the best center of my generation-sorry Dwight Howard, come talk to me when you have a few championships) and Chris Bosh who is definitely a capable third scorer. No matter how many championships you win, you will always be said to have done that, that you couldn't do it by yourself, and needed two other stars in order to get it done when it counted most.
Now, I know Jordan had Pippen, Bird had McHale and Parrish, Magic had Kareem, and Kobe had Shaq/Gasol, but they were the focal points of their teams just like you were in Cleveland. I loved when you took over games when you were a Cav, and sure, maybe Dan Gilbert didn't get you enough (or the right) help that you needed to get a ring or two. But you shouldn't have left. You're from Ohio. You just can't do that. Especially to Cleveland.
Sorry. I just get a little annoyed with him sometimes and everyone always being on the Heat's junk, whether its positive or negative. My prediction: Mavs in seven. I say that because of their depth (Jason Terry, Shawn Marion, Brendan Haywood and JJ Barea make a pretty solid core for any NBA team and they come off the BENCH for Dallas), if one of the "Big Three" for Miami gets hurt I don't trust the rest of their squad to be able to make up the losses, and because they have Dirk. The dude has been unreal and appears very hungry to finally break through and win one. So does LeBron, but he isn't 7 foot tall and can hit every shot no matter who is on him. I'm excited to watch the series, and wish the best of luck to the Mavs and Heat both, so they can make an exciting series for fans everywhere.
Baseball? The Reds are dumps right now. Lost 3 of 4 to the Phillies and now go to Atlanta for the weekend. I just hope they're somehow over .500 after the weekend.
The Indy 500 is also this weekend, which is simply awesome. Those cars fly around the track, and the fans there get really hyped for it. It is supposed to be gorgeous all weekend so it should be a great race.
I'm off to enjoy my last real weekend here, so all I have to say is thank you and GO BUCKS.
