The First Real Day of Spring Quarter
As I start to write my first entry, I would like to give credit to every single man or woman in my life who has helped shape me as the writer I am today. As a disclaimer, I'd like to apologize to you all ahead of time for anything I say or anything that is grammatically incorrect that I post on this blog. It's not because I didn't listen to you or your teachings, I just simply forgot at the time when I typed it into my computer.
I've never done this before, but after having read numerous blogs from a variety of sources I feel as if any average dude can do it. My favorite blogger of all time is without a doubt Mark "The Shark" Titus, the founder of Club Trillion, and a fellow Buckeye. The dream of all dreams for me regarding this blog would have to be if Mark graced his eyes upon my writing and smiled that sly grin we all know and love afterwards. We love you Mark, and love what you do with your spare time.
Now that that's over, I'll start putting down what's on my mind. Being a freshman at The Ohio State University and couldn't be more proud of it, I'm a sports junkie who has every desire in the world to be involved with ESPN at some point in my life. It's been a dream ever since I was a little kid-to get paid to talk about/work with/watch sports. I mean, who wouldn't want that as a job?
One of the best parts of being a Buckeye is all the traditions that we as students participate in. Mirror Lake Jump, Beat *****gan week, our numerous clubs, the best fight song in the country in the Buckeye Battle Cry, our school pride (which yes, I'm aware is scrutinized by about every other college or university on the planet), and our traditionally awesome sports teams are just to name a few. But today I got to experience one of our school's hidden gems for the first time: the Oval Beach.
Every non-Freshman who I know here and who have graduated has told me time and time again that Spring Quarter is the best quarter hands down to be a Buckeye. I mean it makes sense. Excellent weather, more time to be outside, school almost being out, etc. But through 6 and a half weeks I couldn't help that think that these people were hopelessly lying to me. This is of course because Mother Nature (even though I love her dearly and don't want her to get upset with me) decided that until today she was going to make weather in Ohio either A) cold B) rainy C) windy or D) all of the above.
Today was one of the first days of Spring Quarter that it was simply glorious outside and that I got to enjoy it. As soon as my afternoon class let out I made my way over to the Oval and treated it as a beach with what seemed like over 2,000 other Buckeyes and boy let me tell ya, it was awesome. I sure won't forget this first experience on the Oval Beach (the sunburn on my back won't allow that) and it had a great balance of Bro-time as well as non-Bro-time. I chilled with one of my roommates as well as another guy in my dorm and we just enjoyed the day and spent it chatting about everything from night classes to the lovely ladies who were lying close to us and walking around us.
As a freshman, I would have to say that this marked the true first day of Spring Quarter because it finally felt like spring outside. I even decided to take the fifteen or so minute walk from my dorm down to Marketplace on Neil, because it just felt right. As my roommate says, "It's a beautiful day out. Who wouldn't want to walk just a little bit more?"
I, just as much as the next guy, would enjoy it more than anything if this was the way the weather stayed for the rest of the year but we know that won't happen. Guess a guy can dream.
As I have already stated, I am a sports junkie who would rather play sports or do anything with sports all day than do anything the "normal" guy would do. Now I know that many of you would say "Yeah, who wouldn't jackass" and I understand that. but for me I think its rather magnified. I mean, I do get ESPN text alerts on my phone, and I'm not ashamed to say that I do. Even when my sister makes fun of me when she calls ESPN the "annoying girl friend everyone wants to be rid of." All I say is don't hate me, hate my love for sports.
That pretty much is an outline of my day as well as how I feel about sports in my life. Even though you might get a little bored with reading it I promise that I won't go on about myself next time and will talk about things that more of you care about.
Oh, and by the way. The background of my blog will change as often as what is on my mind changes. So as you may or may not be able to see, Michael Jordan has been on the brain today. Plus, in starting something as momentous as this, why not start with the best player of all time of my favorite sport of all time?
