Construction, new found social media, and Brandon Phillips blowing up

So, today brought many things to my life. New information, a social media tool, and some good ole clownin'.

As many of you know, Wednesday night at NOCO is immortalized as Pasta Night. For those that don't, this a day that all North Campusians look forward to and enjoy quite a bit. It is when NOCO (North Commons-Traditions Dining) presents its best meal by far, with a buffet of pasta with various sauces and meatballs, cheese lasagna, and the always delicious chicken tenders. I am not a regular attendee by any means, but I do enjoy it from time to time, for the sheer fact that it is eat as much as you can for your swipe.

I invited one of my cousins with me to NOCO this eve, because I figured the big guy could use a free fill up and I love talking with the guy because he's the man. He is graduating after this quarter, and I have to admit I will miss having him around for multiple reasons. Anyways, he is graduating with a degree in construction management, so needless to say he knows his heavy machinery. We were discussing the recent construction that is happening about Woodruff Ave. and 19th Ave. and how we simply cannot understand how/why they would start such a thing at this point in the year. I am sure they have it all planned out so it will be finished by the beginning of fall quarter this year. But really? This messes up all the bus routes (as evident when I was coming back from the RPAC tonight on my usual bus route and instead of being dropped of right by my dorm it stopped on 18th-awesome). My cousin then stated how he had heard from one of his professors and/or colleagues at his intern that Ohio State has an 8-year construction plan that will continue at numerous places on campus. I'm all for improving things and making good use of funds (I mean we gotta do something with the $100 mill Lex Wexner gave us) but can't it wait for another two weeks? Seriously-two weeks from tomorrow everyone will be done with spring quarter and the campus for the most part will be empty. I feel as if they can wait that long. Maybe not-but I'd like to think so. I'm not in construction management by any means but I do have common sense.

Anywho, after I returned from the RPAC before mega storms hit (beginning of the apocalypse?) I went down to a fellow member of my dorm's room to watch the Reds and the Phillies-s/o TEdwards. We were hanging out with a fellow Reds fan (the Crotch himself) and he was skimming his Twitter account. We all got to talking, and even though I hate to admit this I have definitely joined the world of Twitter. It's a shame, but I think I'm quickly becoming addicted to it. It immediately started blowing up as I learned more and more of what I can do with it and who I can follow. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it simply because of my Twitter high right now so I'll get back to you on that. I'm upset with the fellas who convinced me to get one, because I have a strong inclination that I will be spending a lot of time on there when I should be studying for finals in the upcoming weeks. I'll do my best though, and I've gone without Facebook for a week before so needless to say I'm not scared.

Alright. Now we move to the Reds. Oh, those Reds. Reds Reds Reds. Great game (one that is still going on right now-I just couldn't wait any longer to blog) tonight and that included a little bit of everything. Some small ball, long ball, idiot ball, among other things. As it enters into the bottom of the 15th inning, all I have to say is that Francisco Cordero and Brandon Phillips-you blew up. In the top of the 11th inning of a 4-4 tie, Phillips had reached via an HBP and then advanced to second after a Joey Votto walk. He was jawing and clowning around a little bit with Jimmy Rollins, not paying attention to the pitcher and then oh what do you know? The second basemen has the ball and he's picked off. What a dump. I love the guy (and am following him on Twitter) and he has swag but dude. DUDE. Come on. There was only one out in the inning and you just killed everything. Everything. For a lack of focus. Needless to say I was really really salty. As for Cordero, he presumed Phillips' debacle with his own blow up in the 10th. After Jay Bruce-he's hotter than a firecracker right now-gave them the lead in the top of the inning, Cordero gave up a leadoff BOMB to Ryan Howard. I mean this was a no doubter. This has all led to me still sitting on my rear watching this thing in the 15th inning with both teams running out of pitchers and position guys. Unreal.

It was a pretty eventful day, and I'd really like to see Joey Votto end this thing soon so I can go to bed because I have an 8:30 tomorrow where I have to act like a drunk old guy in my theatre groups rendition of The Piano Lesson. Should be fun. I'll let you know how it goes.

Go Reds and goodnight to all. Be safe in these crappy/scary weather.

Proud Buckeye and Sports Enthusiast,

Eric Seger
