Can we please finally play a softball game?
So as I sat down to write this post I thought back on my Tuesday and wondered what I should put on here. I really am sick and tired of hearing about Tressel, Pryor and the Buckeyes who are continuing to screw up and make our football program and university look like a bunch of scrubs, so I'm going to try my best to steer clear of saying much about it anymore. If you want the information, turn on ESPN. That's all they're talking about. All I'm going to say is that no matter what happens, I still go to the best school in the country.
At the beginning of Spring quarter I signed up for my scholars program's intramural softball team for two reasons: 1. It'd been a while since I busted out my cleats and glove and swung a bat and missed playing and 2. I wanted to help Mount win the scholars cup by winning some games. I was rather excited about it, and after seeing who all was on the team (it is co-ed, and our girls were pretty legit athletes so I was excited (that's not a sexist comment it's a realist comment. Anyone who knows anything about intramural sports knows that having good girls in co-ed is the key to success)). When we all showed up for our first game, and the other team didn't, I was glad we won even if it was by default. Then it happened again. Then we had a rainout. Then another rainout. Very irritating.
I had paid like 12 bucks to be on the team-5 for the team fee and 7 because we all decided to get awesome lime green t-shirts-so I am trying to get my money's worth. Our tournament games kept getting pushed back further and further because of the weather, so when I was informed that we had a game tonight I got stoked. I mean it's tournament-who wouldn't show up for that?
Luckily we were matched up against another team who stood us up like that weird dude on a blind date. No one showed up, so we won by forfeit again. We have moved into the semifinals of the tournament simply by forfeit. Annoying. Very, very annoying. We play again on Thursday, and if we win we play again right afterwards for the championship. If the teams don't show up I will be absolutely beside myself.
This is scholar intramurals-which means that we are playing other scholars teams around campus (naturally). I was under the impression that as a member of a scholars program you had the integrity to always show up and get things done on time. I feel like that's one of the main reasons you got into a scholars program. I guess I was wrong. Maybe it's not the case, but with how things have gone this softball season it's hard not to think so. I guess being a member of Mount and (my buddies are gonna give me so much crap for recognizing this) practicing the Mount Essential "being prepared and following through" is something that not everyone can add to their resume. Hate me for quoting it, but it's the truth.
As a member of Mount that is one of the five Mount Essentials we set out to practice in our two years in the program before we graduate from the program. I think that is what makes being in our program the best. For one thing, we get people from every neck of the woods and every major unlike Engineering scholars for example. Also, we have people who are always ready for service and to help others no matter what the situation is. This was shown today and in the past few weeks.
Needless to say, I really hope people who we are supposed to play show up Thursday so we can make it happen.
In the sports world, the Reds dropped another one so they are back to .500 again. The NBA Finals began tonight, and I watched it with a few bros on the 1st floor. Totally pulling for Dallas which you know about, I watched painfully as Miami slowly grew a big enough lead to close it out with an 8 point win. Dirk wasn't Dirk and neither was Dallas for that matter because as a team they shot an abysmal 37.3% from the field and could never get over the hump as Dwayne Wade and LeBron James (to no surprise) kept making big shot after big shot. Oh well, hope they can bring it back on Thursday and get a W.
Stay cool-as Braxton Miller tweeted today: too hot.
