Been A While

Alright, so I know that those of you who actually read this thing (even though there are probably only about four of you, with two of them being my mom-wait, what?) are going to be really upset when I yet again apologize for not being on here for a little over three months. Sorry bout it. Life has been absolutely nuts since the last time I posted, with school kicking into high gear, starting a new job this quarter, etc. As I look back at the last time that I posted and notice that it is about the one and only Joe Paterno, I cannot help but be ashamed of myself. It has been so long since he passed. Anyway, a lot has happened since then like I said. Spring Break happened (spoiler alert: I did absolutely nothing exciting except eat, play video games, and eat), my lovely girlfriend Amy turned 21 (helluva party), the Cincinnati Reds started their 2012 campaign, Buckeye Spring Football got under way, and Michigan still sucked. I will start with the aforementioned 21st birthday party ...

Joe Pa

A lot of journalists and members of the media have been doing pieces on ESPN and all over the Internet about what they see to be Joe Paterno's legacy. Frankly, it has been the majority of what has been covered over the past 48 hours aside from two extremely close and exciting NFL Conference Championship games. In my opinion, it should be. Paterno, who released news of his lung cancer to the world on November 18 and fell and broke his pelvis on December 11, passed away in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Reports of his condition worsening came Saturday afternoon, launching an abnormally large chunk of the media world to believe he was already gone. Even though I felt personally that he was either going to go that night or Sunday sometime, I must admit I was not entirely prepared for it. As you all well know, I have been a sports fan for as long as I can remember-Packers, Buckeyes, Reds, you name it-and I can say without hesitation that I have never had more respect for an opposing c...

A Pesky Predicament

After about a three week hiatus that finished out my Christmas break and began the year 2012, I finally thought of something that I really want to write to you all about. The last week has been engulfed with classes and a new schedule signaling the beginning of a new quarter. I must say that I am looking forward to this quarter quite a bit due to a bit lighter of a course load as well as the simple fact that it is basketball season. Although classes are still classes, I think I'll be willing to deal with it all a bit better because I'll have basketball games both to attend and to watch on television, in addition to being able to play a bit of club and intramural ball. Life is good from that aspect. Aside from it making me a happier man because it is indeed my favorite sport, the game is causing a bit of a predicament for this upcoming Sunday. The Buckeye basketball team (I'm not going to get into the performance that the Buckeye football team pained us with-you all should k...

NCAA Sanctions

I know I said I was going to blog quite a bit of Christmas break and even though this is only the second time that I have done so, I really don't see it as a problem. Throughout break I have been spending some quality time at the Coldwater Cafe in the hometown to make a little bit of money and I am proud to say that I have already made enough to make up for the cash spent on Christmas presents. Not too bad if I say so myself. This evening I returned from Gallia County, which for those of you who do not know is hella far away from Tipp City in about as far southeast as you can get in Ohio. If you go any further you cross the bridge and enter into Mountaineer country. My reason for going there yesterday morning was to visit my girlfriend and see where she comes from and all that. I have a new found respect for my two roommates who have girlfriends who do not go to Ohio State and as a result rarely get to see them because this Christmas break has been rather frustrating for me. Now I ...

Hitting the Books, Finals, and Freedom

So I know that it has been over a month since I last posted on here, and even though it seems like every single time I write on here I vow that I am going to write more and all that, but this time I'm not going to say anything. Life gets busy, and it wasn't until now that I took the time to sit down and type some thoughts on my MacBook Pro. I believe that in my last blog post I discussed my excitement over the three day weekend that was on the horizon as well as missing Ohio State's football game against Indiana due to my club team having a tournament at home. A lot has happened since then, so let's get to it. Finals for Autumn quarter of 2011 were this past week, so naturally the majority of my time was spent in the library as well as other random classrooms in order to get on that study grind. A lot of people love finals week, because even though the preparations that are needed in order to feel ready for your final examinations can get extensive, not having classes t...

Three. Day. Weekend

I know that a lot of people may get a little annoyed with the words that I am planning on saying in this post in how I am going to describe my feelings about having a three day weekend (most likely the older folk-if there are any who actually read this-who do not get the three day weekend) but I really do not care. So in the words of Bo Ryan, "Deal with it." A lot of people do not understand the magnitude of a three day weekend. I try to take each and every one of them with open arms because I know that I really only have about two or three more years of the enjoyment that comes along with them. I think that this upcoming three day weekend is special because of everything leading up to it. Last weekend I spent the majority of my time in the RPAC due to my club team holding its 6th annual hoops challenge. It was a solid event, with 35 total teams playing. The teams ranged from New York to Missouri and we made a nice little profit off it as well. The only thing I had against it...

The Nuisance That Is Basketball Tickets

Ok, so I realize it's going on three weeks since my last blog post. I also realize that I say that pretty much every time I get on here to actually write something down. I realize all of this, but calm your senses and listen to me for just a few sentences so I can try and explain myself. College is time. Time is college. My good buddy Scott Westphal once said that to me, and when I gave him a queer look all he said was, "This is how college is to me. All the time in the world, yet no time in the world." I took that to heart because both the fact that I love the kid to death and he is absolutely right. When you're in college you are paying for your education (obviously), so you can decide what to do with your time because in a way you are paying for it. You can choose to go to class, utilize libraries and teaching assistants, and do everything you possibly can to better yourself while you are earning your degree. Or you can opt for the alternate of going to class whene...
