NCAA Sanctions

I know I said I was going to blog quite a bit of Christmas break and even though this is only the second time that I have done so, I really don't see it as a problem. Throughout break I have been spending some quality time at the Coldwater Cafe in the hometown to make a little bit of money and I am proud to say that I have already made enough to make up for the cash spent on Christmas presents. Not too bad if I say so myself.

This evening I returned from Gallia County, which for those of you who do not know is hella far away from Tipp City in about as far southeast as you can get in Ohio. If you go any further you cross the bridge and enter into Mountaineer country. My reason for going there yesterday morning was to visit my girlfriend and see where she comes from and all that. I have a new found respect for my two roommates who have girlfriends who do not go to Ohio State and as a result rarely get to see them because this Christmas break has been rather frustrating for me. Now I have a bit of taste about what they go through every day.

Anyways, if you are a fellow Buckeye or simply a sports fan who had your television on ESPN at any point today then you already know that the NCAA finally released the latest and remaining sanctions on both OSU and the football program. Other than the self-imposed penalties that the University has inflicted on itself (vacating the wins from last year, a year of probation, loss of scholarships, etc.), the NCAA came down with a bowl ban for next season, the loss of nine scholarships over the next three years, and another year of probation. In addition, former coach Jim Tressel was hit with a five year show-cause order. What that means is that essentially if an NCAA school wants to hire him as a coach they better show the NCAA a damn good reason why and Tressel needs to show that he can be trusted. At least that's my understanding.

Even though I feel terrible for next years seniors because they will not be able to play in another bowl game after the Gator Bowl on January 2nd of next year, as both a student and fan you had to see this one coming. It sucks yes don't get me wrong but something like this was bound to happen because of all that went down. I feel for Urban Meyer as well, because no matter how successful he is next year he will not be able to reap as much benefits as he possible. Essentially all this means now is that next year is all about beating those people from that school up north. And I'm perfectly ok with that.

It sucks yes, but we as a school just have to deal with it and move on. I just really hope we kick some serious ass my senior year that way I can have a football season to remember. Anyways, it's basketball season now. As long as Sully stays healthy I really think that we can get to a Final Four.

And that's all I have to say about that.

I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas!

P.S. Yes I know that Green Bay lost their first game this past weekend to the lowly Kansas City Chiefs who also just fired their coach the week before. The dream of an undefeated season is over, but they are still 13-1 and one win away from getting home field advantage throughout the playoffs. I decided not to write anything about it up top because I knew that I would go on a huge rant that I know no one would care to read about. So in a way, you're welcome.
