The Past Week in Review
I know it has been a solid week since I have written anything (sorry Mrs. Pearson) but I trust you can all grant me a pardon considering the week I just endured.
Working sucks-we all know that. Especially when you're in a warehouse for hours on end, and the majority of people who you work with fit the category of being a dump in some way shape or form. I posted about six hours of overtime this past week, a direct result of a few things. First, Tuesday marked a massive inspection by the FDA so for those of us who were scheduled to work on Monday (including myself) cleaning after selection was finished for the day was going to be rather arduous because the place had to be "perfect." Add in the fact that the count was huge for that day and nearly every one of my co-workers embraced the idea that overtime was imminent, so why not get as much as possible, and I did not get home until 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. Of course when I left work it was absolutely pouring down rain, which don't get wrong makes me happy because of the lack of rains this summer but I was not very fond of walking out in it when I had just put in an 11 hour marathon of a shift at Meijer.
Friday night was a rather lengthy shift as well, resulting from a shipping meeting at the beginning of the day that set us back an hour. This meeting was annoying because people kept asking stupid questions that I believe could have been discussed on the side so the rest of us could begin our work for the day, but others did not see it that way. On the other hand, the meeting was also a bit beneficial because upper management used it as an excuse to essentially bitch out those team members who haven't been putting for the effort/not showing up the past 3 weeks or so because of the transitional period we are in. This period I am referring to is the time between the "old" system of performance records and accountability and the "new" one. Every employee is basically getting their record wiped clean, so they figure hey, I can use this time to get away with some stuff. This of course leaves the rest of us out to dry and makes long working days a constant occurrence. But like I stated before, it may turn out to be beneficial because the day after the meeting (Saturday) people came in with a lot newer, fresher attitudes and we were finished by 10:30. Awesome.
I was scheduled to work yesterday and be off both today and Wednesday, but I worked it out with my supervisor that I could have Sunday off for the old man's birthday and a trip to Cincinnati and the Reds game. I had a great time with my dad, uncle, and cousin as we went down early and toured the Reds Hall of Fame for the sole purpose of seeing the Johnny Bench exhibit, which was quite terrific I must say. Being the sport and Reds fan that I am I loved seeing all the old memorabilia and reading about Bench's Hall of Fame career and statistics. We then attended the game, which the Reds lost of course (every single time I attend the game they lose) but still had a little bit of everything. By that I mean, every single type of hit was in the game (single, double, triple, home run), it was cloudy and comfortable for some of the game, sunny and hot, and it also rained. Gotta love Ohio weather. We also made the game more complete by enjoying nachos, hot dogs, beer, and peanuts-all at ridiculous prices naturally.
After arriving home I enjoyed some cake and ice cream with my parents and sister for Dad's birthday and it was delicious as always. Nothing beats the cake that my mom makes for birthdays-it is simply too good. Then with my sister returning to Cincinnati for work in the morning and mom and dad winding down their weekend I went over to my best friend's house and shared some good laughs with him and a few other friends. So all in all you could say the week sucked, but the weekend was solid and it's back to the grind today.
Only 15 more days that I have to go to work in the warehouse, and although I shouldn't be sharing that with the world because all its going to do is make them go slower than ever, I can't wait.
Less than a month until football season starts.
Less than a month until I go back to The Ohio State University.
Less than a month until I'm finished working at Meijer.
I can't wait.
