I love pumpkin pie
As I sit here looking at my computer screen trying to figure out what to talk about on this, the final day of the month of August, I heard something that I have not witnessed in a morning in quite some time-rain.
The few rain showers that graced the Miami Valley today were nothing gargantuan by any means, but because this summer has been so hot and dry and I honestly cannot remember the last time it rained in the morning time I was pretty pumped. As I went outside to go for a morning run I noticed how it was rather overcast and extremely cool. I loved the cool part of it, especially last night because it made for a great sleeping atmosphere. Nothing better than snuggling up under your covers for a solid nap.
Yesterday was my final day off during a work week for the summer, and I spent it trekking up north and back multiple times. Dad wanted to get my mother's car new brakes so we took it to her cousin's house because he has done that type of work for us before. He lives literally two minutes down the road from my Grandpa, so I seized this opportunity to go see him a last time before I go back to school (in case I don't make it up that way again) as well as my Grandma who also lives very close. Then after driving back to Tipp City to get Dad a vehicle we drove back to Versailles to see my third adopted Grandmother who does nothing but spoil me. She is the true Grandma of one of my best friends growing up, and I have known her for as long as I can remember. Her traditional spoiling method regarding me is to bake me a pumpkin pie (my favorite) for my birthday gift. I hadn't seen her for a long time, and after heading up that way for a family outing a few weeks ago and running into her she told me she was upset I did not alert her that I would be up that way because she had no pie prepared. So, I made it known that I would be in V-town yesterday and stopped in to see her for a half hour or so and wouldn't you know it? There were TWO pies sitting on her counter waiting for me. I had a piece last night of one and let me tell you, it was delicious. I'm freezing the other in preparation for my return to school. Will be a wonderful going away present.
After leaving her place I headed down to Dayton to meet up with my own mother and visit my Godfather at Good Sam Hospital. He is doing quite fine, and I'm not going to go in to detail about why he is there out of privacy for my family. After our visit Mom treated me to Milano's (a Dayton tradition who has in my opinion the best BBQ chicken pizza on the planet) where I seemingly became a glutton for an hours time and ate way too much food. We got too much food to begin with, so naturally brought it home and I can't wait to feast on my BBQ chicken pizza tonight at work. Will be something nice to look forward to.
In the sporting world Miami (FL) is well, to put it simply screwed. What I think it just absolutely hilarious about this whole situation is how it seems like everyone in the media and on ESPN aren't making as big of a deal about it as it did Ohio State. I mean, I am not denying how bad OSU's problems are/were regarding Pryor or Tressel but come on people. After hearing about all the things that Nevin Shapiro provided various Hurricane players I would think that they would go ballistic. Some of those things are disgusting and just pathetic that a bunch of college guys got that from someone without doing nothing more than asking for it. I guess that is why they get paid the big bucks though and I'm nothing more than a sophomore in college trying to become one in the same as them regarding the media.
At least multiple players have been suspended just like at Ohio State and Miami will be in a continued period of mediocrity this season. I just cannot wait to see what Ohio State does to them come week three. Go Buckeyes.
In other news the Reds are at the halfway point of a four game series with the Philadelphia Phillies. Roy Halladay pitched last night for the Phils, and for you baseball fanatics out there you know that spells trouble for the Reds. The man is just amazing. Philly won 9-0 and Halladay had a bases clearing double that made it 6-0. Ryan Howard also homered twice so it's safe to say that they owned the Reds last night. If they don't win the World Series, I'm not afraid that to say that that is quite pathetic for them given their lineup and the league of arms they have in their rotation.
I head off to my third to last day of work today. Pray that I don't just lose it and can make it through this final week.
