How I Feel About Tiger Woods
So it's been quite some time that I have written anything on here much less drafted a post that is based solely around something in the sports world, no matter what it being. Well it is safe to say I am here to change that right now.
A lot of things have been going on in the world of golf lately, with of course the domination of Rory McIlroy at The U.S. Open in June a few weeks back to Tiger Woods' return to the scene this past weekend at the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron. McIlroy's win marked a possible new era for golf because of how many strokes he won by and for the fact that Tiger was nowhere to be seen as he was rehabbing from knee and leg injuries sustained earlier this year.
Aside from that (because now it simply seems as if it is a mute point in the golf world) all everyone has been talking about on ESPN and any sport channel in general is Tiger Woods and he old caddie Stevie Williams. Now I say "old" caddie because Tiger recently cut ties with him prior to his return at the Bridgestone, with the idea of a fresh start all he would need to get back to his old winning ways. Contrary to popular belief, Tiger is no longer invincible or as dominant as he was back when he was winning majors and all that other hoopla. He's more and more just another golfer.
Williams, who some people call possibly the best caddie of all time, was hired by Adam Scott and this weekend marked the 4th time they had played together and wouldn't you know it? Scott won the same tournament Tiger was playing in, the Bridgestone. Of course everyone on ESPN is all up in arms because this is turning into a great story for them and something that they are able to talk about for this week other than either the NBA lockout or how NFL players are holding out, reporting to camp, ready for the season, etc. Adding more fuel to the fire, Williams stated how this was "the most satisfying win of his career" (speaking of this weekend's triumph in Akron) which of course made everyone else start talking. Is this a jab at his boss? Is he just getting out some of the frustrations that have hung over his head as he took a back seat to possibly the greatest golfer ever? Yada yada yada...I'm gonna tell you guys something right now. Straight up.
Tiger Woods is an asshole. And the sad part is, he's chosen to be like that. After getting busted for cheating on his SWEDISH MODEL (I put that in all caps for emphasis because the woman is absolutely gorgeous and he is an idiot for not treating her like that) wife and quite possibly being a sex addict, Woods went into exile where personally I think all he did was eat, drink beer, sleep, and play video games. I mean, if I was in his position that's what I would do. Just take some time to yourself. But realistically the guy is full of himself. Sure he was dominant back in the late '90s and '00s and has won 14 major championships but the way he carries himself now is just disgusting. I mean it seems like in every interview he does he is just seething with his arrogance as if to say "I'm better than you because I'm effing Tiger Woods and this is not how I want to spend my time right now."
Every analyst seems to want him to get back to his old self and continue to win championships so he can trump the 18 won by Jack Nicklaus. That would be a great story. And I have no doubt in my mind that the guy can do it if he ever gets himself figured out, but if he does I really hope that I don't let myself watch all the coverage on TV about it because it will just upset me as I feel like he will just sit there basking in his glory and tell everyone how great he is. It pains me to say all of this about Tiger, because I'll admit I was a pretty big fan back in the day when he was dominating the sport. It was pretty cool to know that when he put on that Sunday red shirt it was go time and you better be careful if you cross him. But he has since lost that, and it does not look like he will be getting it back at any time soon.
Now through all of this the person I feel the worst for is Adam Scott. The dude just won a tournament, and he has to take a back seat to both Tiger and even his caddie Stevie Williams. I think that Williams should have handled that interview a little differently and directed all of the success to Scott, because after all the guy is the one who won the tournament. I am no golf player, even though I would love to get into it because I think it will teach me patience as I am terrible at the sport and I'm sure that having a good caddie is essential to success but they are not the one who is swinging the clubs.
That's my feelings about the man who has now become an egotistical shell of who he once was. You can take it as you would like, but that's all I'm going to say.
Only 20 days that I have to go to work in the hell hole that is the distribution center, starting today. I'm sick and tired of that place taking away my social life on the weekends, so getting away from there is going to feel pretty good.
Proud Buckeye who is getting a little annoyed with Tiger Woods,
