How Good It Feels
So it has been nearly a solid week since I've been on here, and one could argue that I've simply been basking in the glory of not having to work at Meijer Distribution Center anymore. This statement would in fact be very true, but in addition to it I would include the fact that I went to Miami this weekend to visit one of my best friends from high school. I certainly had a grand ole time, and miss that guy a whole bunch. It was great that it worked out where I was able to go see him and spend the weekend getting the full Redhawk experience.
We went out Saturday night when it was scorching out and humid, which was something that I guess was very unorthodox for this time of year. I say that because the day after as well as Labor Day were quite the contrast. It was rather disheartening when I walked outside and the temperature was in the 60s-I could not help but say "Holy cow it's cold." In reality, it really was not too bad of a temperature I just was not used to it because of the absolute disgusting weather we had the few days before.
Ohio State opened the Luke Fickell era on Saturday with a victory over lowly Akron. I enjoyed the game with my friends at a Miami BW3's and couldn't help but chuckle to myself when about half of the cheers in there were for the Buckeyes and not the Redhawks who also played at noon. I guess there are just Ohio State fans everywhere. Old man Joe Bauserman got the start for OSU and he did very well for his first start since he was a high school senior. And who would have guessed it-the Buckeyes' first touchdown this year would be a rushing one by him. Or who would have thought that their tight end (Jake Stoneburner) would catch three touchdowns? All were pleasant surprises for Luke Fickell I'm sure, and for Buckeye Nation.
Freshman phenom Braxton Miller only played one series in the first half but played the majority of the second and was also very impressive. I'm not sure exactly was Fickell's plan is for the QB situation the rest of the year (there are rumors that both will play about the same amount this weekend against Toledo) but if he sticks with Bauserman I'd be perfectly content. After what he did Saturday I don't have a problem if that continued. We all know it will be Miller Time soon enough.
It's safe to say everyone (including myself) is happy that football is back-and I simply cannot wait for this Thursday night. Marking the kickoff of the 2011 NFL season, Green Bay will host the New Orleans Saints in a matchup of the last two Super Bowl Champions. It sure is going to be heartwarming to see Aaron Rodgers throwing the pigskin around to anyone he wants to and watch Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson and Co. wreak some havoc on Drew Brees at Lambeau. GO PACK GO
T-Minus one week until my return to Columbus, and in the words of Bart Scott I "CAN'T WAIT!" In the words of James Balata, one of my roommates from my freshman year, "The longer you wait, the better it tastes."
I think it's safe to say it's going to taste pretty sweet come next week.
Proud Buckeye who is in love with his school,
Eric Seger
