Man, I Missed This City

After not blogging for just under three weeks time, I have finally found some free time in my busy schedule to sit on my comfy new office chair and type some words at you folks. A lot has happened since my last post, which if I am not mistaken occurred on the day of the first game of the 2011 NFL season. Green Bay played that night, and beat New Orleans in very exciting fashion. They have continued their winning ways in route to a 3-0 start behind the arm of my boy Aaron Rodgers. In a word he is phenomenal.

Enough about my pro football time for now though, like I said I've got loads to talk about. Before I get into it thought I must apologize for my Mark Titus-esk absence from the blogosphere. I moved back to Columbus on September the 13th, and bummed off of people until that following Sunday when I moved into my spacious apartment. Some of you may be wondering why I came back to Columbus so early, and it is because I volunteered my time to assist with the Mount Leadership Society's Launch Week activities in an effort to get back to the university and city that I love and get to know the new Mounties. Oh, and seeing all of my friends from last year was a nice plus too.

In addition to being swamped with Mount activities, I found time to get my football tickets (even though we got embarrassed by Miami I still have faith in my Buckeyes), visit some of my closest friends places around campus, and of course take a little time to go out and enjoy myself. It is pretty crazy how long this past summer felt simply because I rarely if ever got to see my friends from school. But in the words of James Balata-and I know I have quoted this before-the longer you wait the better it tastes. Needless to say it feels good to be back in action at Ohio State, even though I am busier than a beaver right now.

After being voted as the Vice President of the club basketball team here at OSU our workouts seemingly began in a flash. Things are going to be extremely different this year, with our coach from last year taking a coaching position at a Columbus Middle School being the most drastic change. This leaves the girls coach from last year to be at the helm of both teams, much like he has in years past, and in his words "Things are going to go back to the way they used to be." Being only a sophomore and therefore my second year in the program I have no idea what that means, but I both like and hate things thus far. Our first day of classes (last Wednesday) marked the beginning of our first conditioning session for returning players. That was followed up by another session this past Monday and then another last night. Coach has seemingly been riding us into the ground, and I can't remember a time when my legs have been this sore except during workouts for both football and basketball in high school. It just never stops. But I trust him-I mean it is hard not to because the dude did play ball for Ohio State on scholarship. So he knows what it takes. I just wish I had an ice bath waiting for me in my apartment when I came home to spend some time in. I absolutely loathe those things, but after gaining enough courage my senior year I used it and couldn't believe how fresh I was the next day. It is my own fault for letting myself get this out of shape, and I am fully aware that you have to go through the pain in order to get back to where you want to be-I just want that time to be here right now.

On the plus side things are more organized this year as far as club goes, and I think we will have a lot better team than last year. I sure hope so anyways, because last year's losing and inconsistency got real old, real quick. I'm looking forward to tryouts Monday night, just to see who is ready to help the team.

As far as academics go, I am knee deep in the 20 credits I decided to take this quarter and have never been more hard at work in my life. I start my day bright and early with and 8:30 spanish class-everyday-and then have a break until 1:30 everyday except for Fridays. The 8:30 classes are wearing on me because of how late I get home from basketball. The only time we can get gym space is very late in the evening, and therefore I lose a lot of extra time to sleep because the alarm goes off at 7:45 every morning. You might be thinking why I don't just sleep until like 8:15 and roll out of bed and head to class? Well, I have to have my mini wheats in the morning, because if I don't I'll be hungry halfway through class. In addition to that, I usually stay on campus and head straight to the library to read/study/do homework everyday after my 8:30 class. It's the only time I really have to get things done before the afternoon. Plus, the morning is primetime to go to Thompson, because it usually isn't too packed.

Like I said before, the lack of sleep is getting to me somewhat, so I plan on catching up this weekend before the game on Saturday (Michigan State at 3:30-can't wait) and again on Sunday. And like my sisters always tell me, "You're in college. Suck it up. You can sleep when you're dead."

On my way to my 1:30 class yesterday, I witnessed quite possibly the most odd thing in the world. I was so flabbergasted that I couldn't help but take a picture so I could document the situation. I saw a fellow student walking to class much like myself just minding his own business. Totally harmless right? Except for the fact that he was wearing a pink backpack with a monkey on it. I mean this thing is specifically designed for a third grade schoolgirl. Now, I know I shouldn't just jump to any conclusions like this but that kid has to be some sort of a fruit. Maybe he is just trying to let the little girl he never go to show the world when he was younger out now that he is in college and able to express yourself. I do not know. As soon as I saw it though I could not help but think of the Monday Night Countdown guys and their segment of "C'mon Man!" because that's how I felt. You just looked at him and say, C'mon Man! Naturally I posted the picture on Facebook (made so easy now by the wonderful gadget known as the iPhone) and it blew up in a heartbeat. I don't think I have ever had so many likes on one thing before in my life, except maybe the picture I took with A.J. Hawk last spring. Regardless it made me feel really good so a shoutout to those people who enjoyed it just as much as I did. I really enjoyed the self-esteem boost.

That's just about it for now, I will do my best to be more consistent with this and not be a dump when it comes to blogging. I hope you all enjoyed my first post in about three weeks. Keep it real and....

GO BUCKS!! And God Bless America!

Proud Buckeye who is beyond excited to be back in Columbus,
