When The Going Is Tough
As I open my laptop to write this blog post during halftime of the Green Bay and Denver football game (Green Bay is ahead 28-17 thanks to Aaron Rodgers' God-like qualities on the field) I can't help but say to myself, "I really never thought things would get this bad."
Of course what I am referring to and what you probably already know is that the Buckeyes are just not where they need to be. I know all of the wreckage that came from the tattoo situation really makes things difficult as we try and break in a new coach, quarterback, and everything else but I mean we still are Ohio State. Throughout the summer I continued to be confident and say that we still have guys who can play and we won't take a big step back. Unfortunately, things aren't like that.
I mean, it feels like our offense is just stuck in neutral. Freshman Braxton Miller was named the starter after the Miami loss, and after winning last week against lowly Colorado he looked like well, an 18-year-old kid. It is pretty obvious that our playbook is extremely thin because he only knows so much, but when our alternative is 26-year-old Joe Bauserman, we have some issues. He hasn't been much better all season, but after Coach Fickell inserted him into the game late, the offense looked a little better. He did throw our only touchdown of the contest (albeit with only 10 seconds left) and was sacked a few times but I would put those on the offensive line.
No matter how you look at it, this season is going to be a huge shocker for a lot of people. As I have discussed on here before, Buckeye fans who always called for Jim Tressel's job because he didn't win national championships every single season will finally see how good we had it with him when we won 10 games every single year and beat Michigan. It sucks, but as a student at the greatest university in the world I hope and pray that we can all move on and learn to practice a little humility during the tough times ahead. We are going to need it.
I paused on this entry a few hours ago because I chose to go to church at six and then had a meeting to attend until just a few minutes ago. I know it's shocking that I left in the middle of the Packer game, but there is just something about having Aaron Rodgers playing in front of your home crowd that makes me fine with leaving. The man is amazing, accounting for six touchdowns today by himself-four passing and two more rushing. And who would have thought that at this point in the season the only remaining undefeated teams in the league would be Green Bay (I'm sure some people expected them) and Detroit? The Lions are fo' real and showed it by coming back from three touchdowns today to beat the Cowboys in Dallas. NFC North looks pretty strong right now except for the Vikings. They seriously just need to give Adrian Peterson the ball every play.
I'm off to read and do the homework I've neglected all weekend-so keep it real and if you are a Buckeye like myself pray for a QB to fall into the arms of Luke Fickell.
What's wrong with giving Kenny Guiton a chance?
